New Brighton Rugby Club is very happy to announce the following coaches for the 2010 season.
Div 1
The progressive Steve Crotty will be head coach of the div 1 side. Steve is an IRB level 4 coach and brings a wealth of experience to the postion. John Seque will be the forward coach. John is also an IRB level 4 coach and is very popular with the players. Assisting these guys as resource coaches will be New Zealand Rugby Union employee Dave Perrin and John Haggart who was back coach of the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup winning team Canterbury.
The Trainer will be New Zealand Institude of Sport employee Greg Thompson who was trainer of the Canterbury Air N.Z cup winning team in 2008. Greg will over see off-season and pre-season training from his Olympic standard training facility at QE II park.
COLTS
Peter Manson will be the Colts head coach. Peter has coached the Christchurch div 1 side for 2 years before seeing the light and moving to Brighton. Peter is an IRB level 5 coach which is as high as you can go. He has also been the Metro Senior coach in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Assisting him will be a former New Brighton Colts and Ellesmere rep coach Gary Loveridge (backs). The forward coach will be hugely experienced Dennis Cations who has won a div 2 title with New Brighton and is a former coach of Burnside div 1.The colts will have 2 academy skills sessions on Monday December 7th and 14th at 6pm followed by a barbecue.
DIV 2
The Killer Bs coaching staff are back. The smooth Scott Pawson continues to develop as a coach and the players are very pleased to have him back. The forever young James Lamb will lead the forwards and keen to get the boys going a bit earlier in 2010 with a Monday night option for the guys starting from February 15th. This training will also be for the potential div 2,3,4 and 5 guys who want to come down for a run around which will involve more anaerobic games than running.
DIV 3
This position is not confirmed at this stage with a possible opportunity for the right person. Ricky Bolton and Elliot Norton have also shown interest in coaching this side.
DIV 4
These guys had a great 2009 winning the Plate final. These guys will be lead by 2009 club coach of the year Robin Bush.
DIV 5
With div 4 and div 5 being in the same grade,it was a tough year for these guys. In 2010 there will be no Classics grade just an outright div 5 so that will better for all concerned. A new coach Adam Watson will lead the side, so don,t hang up the boots yet guys.
Rugby Development Officer Roddy Butt and Club Captain Derek Davidson are very happy with the standard of coaches we have on board for 2010. Our club will be unmatched by any club in regards to the strength and depth of our coaching staff. With the new clubrooms looking good (which will provide us with the best facilities in the South Island) the future looks very very bright.
