    SEASON REPORT

    President’s Report

This year our Club has been fairly successful by becoming an Incorporated Society in January, having more funds in the bank, more than 6 teams placing in the first round and a Junior Team present for Christchurch Netball prize giving.

I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to my committee team for all their efforts. They have worked hard collecting chocolate money and getting out information to teams. A special thanks to Jo Starr for her efforts getting a grant for the first aid kits and ice bags.

We currently are a Club of 13 Teams - 6 Senior Teams and 6 Junior Teams as well as a Future Ferns Team. Hopefully we will be able to build on this number next year.

Currently the Rugby Club is up for sale and there is an offer on the table. This is one step of many to creating a new sports facility on Rawhiti Domain. This will be a large building, that we be joined to the Golf Club. It will be connected and will be across the car park facing the fields. Within the building there are provisions for an indoor netball court this is only a positive move for the growth of the Netball Club.

Rawhiti Community Sports Incorporated now has a Board that will take our dreams and wishes to the next level. The Board is working with Council to establish a lease for the building. They also are working on funding applications to help fund the project. Hopefully within 2-3years there will be a new facility for all to use on the Domain.

Finally, my congratulations to the all the teams for sticking with it and making New Brighton their club. I’m looking forward to next year when we all can truly make a difference.

     A Team

The A team had a mixed season but one which was enjoyed by all.  A mixture of players from last year and a few new-comers from other teams, saw a strong side taking the court.  Unfortunately finding continuity at times became difficult, with injuries and illnesses coming at bad times.  Highlight of the season was winning the section in the 2nd round against some top class opposition.  Hopefully most of the team will return for another season next year.

    B Team

B Team was a mixture of old hands who wanted to enjoy their netball again. Including ladies who had come back to the club, as well as a mother-daughter combination. Games weren’t taken too seriously and all enjoyed playing, although weren’t too happy when we lost. Starting out at the bottom of the 2A section, then after regarding ended up somewhere the middle. Won 6 out of 15 games. Overall enjoying playing netball, being with mates and will be back next year.

    C Team

C Team started this year with two new players to the team in the defence end. Last year we were in section 5 and didn’t do well, so this year we were surprised to find ourselves in Section 1.

Our first game was a very big surprise to us, we lost the game 34-27 which was a lot better than we ever anticipated, we only managed one win that round but it gave us such a boost to know that we could compete at the top.

The second round saw us drop to section 2, we won 3 games and was second equal but 2nd on points. The third round we dropped again to Section 3, which we were a bit puzzled at since we got 2nd and believed we should have stayed in Section 2, unfortunately we didn’t do so well in the last round and lost a player to injury in the second to last game which meant we had to change positions in the final game and just never recovered in the change up that was made. Overcoming the injuries and hoping they recover it looks good for the whole team to come back together again next year.

    D Team

The D Team had a shaky start to the season, with illness & injuries, we enlisted the aid of a coach to assist in the development of our skills. While we did not come away with a win under our belts, we have had several close matches. This aside, we have finally started working together as a team and have enjoyed playing.

    E Team

E Team have had 4 new players and half of our team from last year which was great as we are working together as a team well now and have some good combinations going on.  Our 1st 2 rounds we did exceptionally well, winning most of our games by some very big scores, which then moved us up a couple of sections to division 2, which was great and a lot more of a challenge for us, but well needed.

The last round was tougher but we finished 4th in our section, so still pretty good.

We have had a really enjoyable season, everyone has done very well and hopefully most will return for another great season next year

    F Team

New Brighton F, also known as New Brighton Funderbirds, had an age range of 20 to 50, and the fitness range was pretty varied as well. We had a good season, winning five of 15 games and moving from the bottom grade in 2B to Division 2, Grade 6 by the end of the competition. Later in the season we were affected by an injury to one of our key players, however, continued to play to the best of our abilities and had fun doing it. There were a couple of mother / daughter combinations in the team and the call of 'catch it mum' was heard on more than a few occasions. Some of our converts from soccer to netball learnt quickly that it hurts more to fall on asphalt than it does on grass.

It was a great season, in terms of improving our netball skills and fitness, and having fun while doing it. We will be back again next year and have begun recruitment.
