It was a special occasion at the New Brighton Clubrooms Saturday night as four players were honoured in respect of their contribution to rugby.
Justin (Juzza) Lewis was presented his 50th Senior Division One blazer to start the nights presentations. Juzza is a popular character at the club and accepted his blazer from coaches Seque and Crotty with delight, delivering a great speech as well.
Tyson Keats was next to be recognised for being a member of the NPC side that won the Air New Zealand Cup and also making the Crusaders. Hugh Burry (Club Patron) presented Tyson a gift on behalf of the Club and Bill Barry articularly and accurately summarised Tyson's personality and rugby ability.
Ryan Crotty was next in line for his naming in the Jnr All Black team which recently won the Pacific Nations Cup in Fiji. Ryan is still a young fella and as Bill Barry said, we expect to see him in a winning All Blacks side at the 2011 World Cup!
The highlight of the night was honouring Issac Ross who is now the Club's third All Black. Ex-Senior coach Glen Fyall spoke first about his involvement with Issac first through School Boy rugby, then Colts, and then Senior Division One. Fylo spoke well before Boz nabbed the mic again. Boz told afew personal accounts of Issac from the last couple of years and a good laugh was had by all. Hugh returned to the stage again to pay tribute to Issac's parents (Jock & Christine) for producing such an athlete, his sheep breeding experience giving him particular expertise in the field of genetics!
Issac finally took the stage to a standing ovation, and charmed his adoring crowd, a New Brighton man and now an All Black!
Well done to all, all well deserved. A great turnout from Club members resulted in a great night.
